After effects of nitric acid in the eye.?

I had an accident in class earlier today and a drop of nitric acid splashed up into my eye. I immediately used an eyewash station for about ten minutes and then went to the health center where I used the eyewash station for another 20 minutes. I got checked out and they said there weren't any scratches or ulcers in my eye, it was just extremely irritated. My question is that now my eye is kind of swelled up and I am running a low grade fever with a headache. Could the fever and the headache be a result of the irritation in my eye? I wasn't as worried because the pain and redness has gotten progressively better but my face is flushed and my fever is about 99.6
